 Who is Stalfos?
« Thread Started on Dec 22, 2006, 7:24am »

Stalfos, the skeleton that teaches you the new moves, just who is he? He can transform into a wolf just like Link, and he says he is a hero of old. Is it possible that.... he's link?! That's what I thought at first, but I'm not sure anymore. Hmm... what are your thoughts?

My own theory is that he is the hero of time.

I support that theory, he doesn't seem evil, that's for sure.

Yeah, and he is a sword master; OOT link is extremly good in swordfighting (Killed gannon and all). It also mentioned he was a hero.

Umm yeah I have to agree, that's also what I thought - the Stalfos knight / yellow wolf does indeed seem to be the Hero of Time.

Funny thing is though almost everyone believes he's the Hero of Time, there's no solid support of that theory. Judging from his armor and his manner of speaking, I'd say he's one of the elite Royal Hylian Knights, who all disappeared long before OoT.

About to go do that.. I need to empty the fridge of cola first though. It's a heavy burden for the fridge to bear 2 liters of coke, and i will relieve it's toil by emptying that.

I support the theory that he is the hero of time. He seems to treat you like a son, he acts kind, but doesn't hesitate to emphasize the danger in some of these moves. Though I can't remember the specifics right now, the speech he gives after he teaches you the last skill says something about being a hero...I need to go look at that again...

Final proof. The Prima guide calls him "The Hero's Shade".

Well, he must be WW Link then, because he's the Hero of Winds. Or maybe the first wielder of the Four Sword, I remember him being referred to as the Hero.

You can be called a Hero without being a Link.

Also, "my son" in no way has to be literal, and all the Links don't come from the same line. It's only said that the Links are descended from the ancient Royal Hylian Knights (which means more than one line).

Also, TP is supposed to come after OoT (in some way) but Ganondorf's execution doesn't fit with his sealing in OoT's adult ending, nor do the Sages that attempt to execute him. I believe TP follows the child ending, in which the Hero of Time would have just been truly a legend.

Isn't it possible that after the sages seal ganon in TP, they go to him and try to execute him, after link returns to the child timeline?

1. Different Sages. After the adult ending, Saria, Darunia, Ruto, Impa, and Nabooru were still the Sages. These bearded, apparently all male, old mystics are not them. Perhaps these are the Sages Ganondorf killed when he took over Hyrule?

2. Why go to the trouble of bringing Ganondorf out of his imprisonment in the Sacred Realm just to destroy him again? And why cast him into the Twilight Realm if they were able to access the Sacred Realm already?

3. They did not know Ganondorf had the Triforce of Power. The OoT Sages did, that was why they had to aid Link in the first place.

Can't be the one from WW. That's after TP.

There was an Interview with Eji Aonuma or someone a while back, where he said that you may see some characters from Oot again. I think this is their way of doing that.

Ganondorf could have broken out. heck, he's always breaking out. They can't see to find a way to keep him sealed up!

I was joking about WW Link, obviously. Because everyone assumes that just because the Shade is a "Hero" it must be THE Hero of Time, when there a plenty of different Heroes through the series.

No, Ganondorf couldn't have broken out. If any of the Sages past or present (in that timeline) had dealt with Ganondorf in any way (say, sealing him into the Sacred Realm because the Triforce of Power kept him from dying) they would have known that he held the ToP. They would have known that simply stabbing him wouldn't have killed him.

Maybe they believed the sacred light blade they stabbed him with would destroy him... Who knows what kinds of powers that sword has.

I remember that in OoT, this little Kokiri kid tells you that when you get lost in the Lost Woods, you become a Stalfos, which were the skeleton monsters that ended up being Mini-Bosses in a few areas of OoT.

Maybe not any relation there, but good to see that they re-used yet another name from the series.

If he were the Hero of Time, wouldn't that be obvious?

Hmm..."The Hero's Shade," and the Spirits telling you that the Hero within you is awakening and such...could it be the spirit of the Hero within him that is awakening, and by doing so he learns of his powers?

I don't think that he was ANY of the Links. He was probably some lesser-known hero who was a swordmaster.

I like the idea that he is an alternate version of Link. It reminds me of the books Hyperion and Endymion by Dan Simmons; there's this monster character called the Shrike who is initially hostile, but later helps out. It's revealed that he is one of the main characters (Kassad) from the future, and was made into the Shrike and sent back in time to help them. It's a great idea that you were fighting a future version of yourself. He is also similar in that it's like an armoured warrior thing.

It would be cool if like when you get the last hidden skill, a bit of green cloth is left behind and Link picks it up. :o
